ANCHORAGE, Alaska --- The Golden Eagle women's basketball team opened up a two-game homestand in The Last Frontier on Friday evening, with Clarion falling by a 83-47 score to Alaska-Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center. The teams will meet again in just two days, with the rematch scheduled for Sunday.
Â
The Seawolves proved to be a tough test for the Golden Eagles, with the former forcing 29 Clarion turnovers and subsequently turning them into 31 points. The Golden Eagles did begin to regain their footing in the second half, though, playing more closely with the Seawolves in the final 20 minutes of action.
Â
Sadre'a Rougeau came off the bench for the Golden Eagles' best scoring performance of the night, posting 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-7 mark from three-point range. Rougeau also had a team-high five rebounds in the game.

Â
It took both sides some time to get to work scoring, with Alaska-Anchorage leading just 6-4 after five minutes of action. The Seawolves went on a big run the rest of the period, rattling off 17 straight points to take a double-digit lead. Rougeau countered with a three-pointer on the Golden Eagles' first offensive possession of the second quarter, and then added another with 8:28 to play in the first half to make it 25-10. That would be all the closer Clarion got in the first half as the Seawolves rode a 47-18 lead into the break.
Â
Thornton hit a couple of three-pointers early in the second half to draw the deficit down some, but Alaska-Anchorage continued to build their lead well into the fourth quarter. Thornton made a mid-range jumper after taking a pass from
Abby Pynos and converting from inside the paint, and
Malayziah Etheredge scored with 3:27 remaining to close out the night for the Golden Eagles.
Â
The two teams are set for a rematch on Sunday, Dec. 11. Tipoff time is slated for 2 p.m. Alaska Time, meaning home fans will be able to watch at 6 p.m.
