Beard Breaks Outdoor Triple Jump Record at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- Delaney Beard broke a 14-year-old school record on Thursday, highlighting Clarion's day at the John Papa Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock.

Looking to solidify her place among the contenders in the conference, Beard popped the best Triple Jump of her collegiate career, as well as the best in program history. The senior jumper hit a mark of 11.88m to win the event, as well as edging out Diane Kress's program outdoor record of 11.84m set in 2009. Beard had set a PR in the event just five days prior, hitting an 11.47m at the Thiel Tomcat Invitational, but on this day shattered that mark by more than a foot.

Beard's previous PR in the Triple Jump – including indoor competition – came on Dec. 2, 2022, an 11.53m mark that was also a program record. Her mark of 11.88m set today puts her second in the conference through this date, and just 0.05m off Sasha Lee's conference leading mark. She came up just shy of hitting a PSAC-qualifying mark in the Long Jump, recording a mark of 5.27m to place seventh. Emily Lodge was 10th at 5.07m.

In the mid-distance events, Mackenzie Carver qualified for the PSAC Championships in the 1500m, placing second in the event with a career-best time. Carver completed the race in 4:59.19, shaving off nearly four seconds from her PR and almost five seconds from her best time this season. That was good enough to earn her a spot in the field at the conference championships. Allison Farson, meanwhile, picked up a win in the long distance events, winning the 5000m with a time of 20:10.95.

She was not the only Golden Eagle distance runner to finish on top in her race. Abby Sullivan was the victor in the 3000m Steeplechase, finishing the grueling race in a time of 12:17.49 to pace the field. Courtney Kosanovic placed fourth with a 13:13.33.

Shelly Jones continued her standout senior season in the throws, winning the Shot Put with the second-best outdoor throw of her college career. Jones tossed the implement 13.24m to lead the 29 competitors in the event, including teammate Emma Pesicka, who finished fifth. Pesicka's mark of 12.15m officially qualified her for the PSAC Championships in May, and the senior also climbed to ninth in the PSAC in the Discus with a toss of 38.28m. That toss ranked third in the field on Thursday, while Jones' mark of 38.14m put her in fourth place.

In the sprint events, Hannah Redwood came up just short of qualifying for the finals in the 100m, taking 10th overall with a time of 12.89. She placed seventh in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 26.65, while Emily McDonnell placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.56. Kaylen Sharrow came up just fractions of a second shy of qualifying for the finals in the 100H, finishing in 16.33 to place 10th.

In the relays, the 4x100 Relay team of Sharrow, Redwood, Beard and Lodge placed fourth with a time of 51.48. The 4x400 Relay quartet of Emily McDonnell, Carver, Karly McDonnell and Caleigh Aigler placed third with a 4:18.70. In the field, Emily Pleslusky took 12th in the High Jump with a 2.99m.
