Track & Field Competes at Paul Kaiser Classic

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --- A trio of Golden Eagles solidified spots on the program's all-time performances lists on Saturday, highlighting the Clarion track & field team's time as the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg.

Mackenzie Carver moved higher on the program's all-time performance list in the outdoor 800m, recording a new PR that placed her third on the prestigious list. Carver placed second in the field with a time of 2:17.05, representing a drop of nearly a full second from her previous best set earlier this year.

Carver had ranked fifth on the program's all-time performance list with her previous performance, but with her time on Saturday she jumped Debbie Brostmeyer and Holly Urban for third on the all-time list. Clarion's outdoor 800m record is 2:12.0, set by Molly Smathers in 2009.

In that same event, Emily McDonnell hit a PSAC-qualifying mark with a PR of 2:23.43. That cleared the conference standard by more than a half-second, and also placed her 13th in the field at the meet. Other notable distance results include Allison Farson, who placed fourth in the 3000m, crossing the finish line in 11:09.66, as well as Gabby Kutchma, who got a PSAC-qualifying mark in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 12:28.66.

The field events were highlighted by Emma Pesicka and Madison Brooks, who went 6-7 in the Discus with new entries on the program's all-time performance list. Pesicka threw the implement 39.80m for the best mark of her career, leapfrogging Allyson Cress for third place on the program's all-time performance list. Brooks also PR'ed in the event with a toss of 39.38m, putting her just below Cress for fifth on the program's all-time performance list.

In other throwing events, Shelly Jones won the Shot Put event with a mark of 13.09m. That put her more than a half-meter past the second place finisher, Zhayria Washington of West Chester. Autumn Pettinato hit a PSAC-qualifying mark in the Javelin, with Pettinato throwing the javelin 35.52m.

In the jumping field events, Delaney Beard finished second in the Triple Jump, ranking behind only Shippensburg's Sasha Lee with a jump of 11.53m. Emily Lodge and Beard went 5-6 in the Long Jump, with the former hitting a new PR in the process. Lodge placed fifth with a mark of 5.24m, while Beard placed sixth with a 5.15m.

Jenna Uncapher placed eighth in the High Jump with her best jump of the season. The senior cleared the bar at 1.56m, her best leap of the 2023 campaign. That also gave her a qualifying mark for the PSAC Championships, as she had come up just narrowly shy of that mark for much of the year.

In the 100H, Leah Perry came up just one spot shy of qualifying for the finals, taking ninth overall with a time of 15.75. The 4x100 Relay team of Delaney Beard, Emily Lodge, Kaylen Sharrow and Hannah Redwood placed ninth with a time 51.47.
