Records Fall, Golden Eagles Soar at PSAC Outdoors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- Jenna Uncapher closed out her impressive college career with a record-breaking performance and a conference medal, taking second place in the Heptathlon to highlight the second day of the PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.

After seven total completed events, the Golden Eagles sit in seventh place with 17 total team points. Action will resume on Saturday morning with the remainder of this year's championships.

Uncapher finished off the best Heptathlon performance of her career, as well as the best in program history, with a trio of strong results on Friday. With a total score of 4,501 points, she surpassed Diane Kress's program record of 4,481 set in 2008. That also represented the second-best score in the event on Friday, putting her behind only Shippensburg's Nicola Pugge.

The senior led the way in the very first event of the day, pacing the field of 16 in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.15m. That topped both of the second-place finishers by 0.10m and gave Uncapher a significant points advantage in the event. She went on to keep things interesting in the Javelin, uncorking the best throw of her collegiate career. Uncapher tossed the implement 32.99m, breaking her previous PR of 31.38m set earlier this year at Westminster. That was good enough for second place in the Javelin field behind Pugge. In the final leg of the Heptathlon, Uncapher placed third in the field in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:32.07 to gain just enough points to break the program record.

That was not the only event Uncapher scored in during the early afternoon. She also found time during the Heptathlon to head back over to the High Jump area, clearing the bar at a height of 1.56m on her very first attempt. That mark was good enough for fifth place in the field.

Also in the Heptathlon, Leah Perry finished up her weekend with a 13th-place finish. Her best event of the day was in the Long Jump, where she took ninth in the field with a mark of 4.71m. She threw the Javelin 21.77m and finished the 800m in a time of 2:44.39, taking 12th in the latter.

The Golden Eagles' other scorer on Friday was Madison Brooks, with the senior firing off three of the best throws of her college career in the Discus to earn a fourth-place finish. Brooks qualified for the finals in the Discus with a then-PR of 39.76, putting her in fifth place among the nine finalists. She followed that up with another PR and one of the best throws in Golden Eagle outdoor history, tossing the discus 41.23m to pull all the way into second place in the field. Brooks finished the event in fourth.

With her big throw in the finals, Brooks moved into third place on the program's all-time performance list in the Discus, leapfrogging teammate Emma Pesicka (39.80m - 2023) and Allyson Cress (39.56m – 2013). Brooks is the first Golden Eagle to crack the 41.00m mark since Summer Murray's program record 43.07m at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Championships.

On the track, the big result of the day belonged to Mackenzie Carver, who clinched herself a spot in the 800m finals on Saturday with the best race of her career. Carver took second place in her heat of the preliminaries with a PR time of 2:16.49, a time that solidified her own hold on third place on the program's outdoor performance list and was just 0.12 seconds behind third-place Darby Roth of Seton Hill. Carver will enter tomorrow's finals race with the fourth-fastest seed in the conference. Emily McDonnell also competed in the 800m, taking 14th with a time fo 2:26.01.

Elsewhere on the track, the 4x100m Relay team of Kaylen Sharrow, Hannah Redwood, Delaney Beard and Emily Lodge finished 10th in the prelim with their best time of the season, completing the lap in 50.11. Sharrow took 17th individually in the 100H prelims, finishing in a time of 16.27. In other jumping events, three Golden Eagles competed in the Long Jump, led by Beard's 12th-place finish with a mark of 5.21m. Lodge was one spot and just one centimeter behind her, taking 13th with a 5.20m, while Uncapher placed 13th with a leap of 5.13m.
