GREENSBURG, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles soccer team got back on the road on Wednesday, falling to PSAC West foe Seton Hill 3-0 in a fast-paced offensive game. The game featured 20 shots, with an almost even distribution between the two teams, though the Griffins outshot the Golden Eagles by a margin of 11-9.
The scoring started early, as the Griffins were able to net two goals in the first 5:36 of the game. The first came just two minutes and 12 seconds into the match, when Samantha Hallo scored past
Alex Velez after a sequence of nice passes from Corynna Rotoli and Jessica Molitoris. Minutes later, Jackie Massof scored her second goal of the season with a well-placed crossing pass from Hallo, putting the Griffins up 2-0.
The Golden Eagles' offense responded with a few strong attacks of their own, with sophomore
Evelyn Cook striking a shot on goal just 6:45 into the first half.
Marisa Colondrillo was the next Clarion attacker to attempt a shot, but she sailed the ball wide of the net. Freshman
Lexi Coull closed the half with her second shot of the season, but the Griffins' Sydney Caldwell was able to secure the ball, keeping the Golden Eagles off the board.
Clarion continued to press offensively, with
Nadia Gill taking a pair of shots early in the second half. Gill's first shot came 7:15 into the period and was corralled by Caldwell, while the Seton Hill defense blocked her second shot before it could get to the goalie.
The Griffins added their third goal with 17:35 left in the second half when Mikaela Small completed a run, beating a Clarion defender before scoring past Velez. The assist was credited to Mikayla Moyer, who had just been subbed into the game moments before the goal.
The Golden Eagles' offense continued to fight, registering four shot attempts in the remaining 16 minutes, including a pair of shots on goal by Colondrillo. However, the Griffin defense held strong to preserve the shutout.
The Golden Eagles will get the weekend off and will return home to Memorial Stadium to host Pitt-Johnstown next Wednesday.
