Men's Swimming & Diving Beats IUP in Home Dual

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team rolled their way to victory on Friday night, beating IUP 179-120 in Tippin Natatorium.
 
Things got off on the right foot in the pool, cruising past the Crimson Hawks in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Henry Miller, Dominic Cortopassi, David Bocci and Austin Prokopec outpaced the top relay team for IUP by nearly three full seconds, touching the wall in a time of 1:32.91. Cortopassi followed that up with an impressive win in the 200 Free, edging out the Crimson Hawks' Luke Mikesell with a time of 1:42.19 for the victory.
 
The good times kept on rolling in the 100 Back, with Miller and Mason Peck claiming the top two spots in that event. Miller finished in a time of 51.72 that was far and away ahead of the field, while Peck beat IUP's Alexander Roth by one-hundredth of a second, at 54.60.
 
Bocci recorded what might have been the most dominant win of the evening, blazing pas the field in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:50.29. There were no competitors within a half-length of the pool as the two-time NCAA qualifier, with IUP's Luke Ramalho taking second with a time of 1:59.41. Mason Irwin was just four-hundredths of a second behind him with a time of 1:59.45.
 
Now with the momentum, Clarion continued to pour it on. Austin Prokopec won the 50 Free with a time of 21.75, and Cortopassi came out of the break with a victory in the 100 Free, touching the wall in 46.95. Bocci won his second individual event of the night, taking the 200 Back with a 1:56.53, and Richard Scholer led the way in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:14.22.
 
Mason Peck led a trio of Golden Eagles that took three of the top four spots in the 100 Fly, finishing in 52.98  to win the event while Prokopec (53.58) and Dylan Chaky (54.15) took third and fourth respectively. The 400 Free Relay team of Prokopec, Gavin Guckavan, Bocci and Cortopassi wrapped up the night in the pool by winning the 400 Free Relay, finishing in 3:09.47.
 
Meanwhile, over in the diving well, three Golden Eagle men locked up their trips to the NCAA Championships pre-qualification meet in March. Zak Kennedy, Ethan Coronado and Michael Flamm all achieved their second NCAA qualification scores on Friday, with Coronado winning the 1-Meter Dive 11-dive list. He posted a score of 460.05, just ahead of IUP's Nick Roddy. Two of the divers hit scores in the 3-Meter six-dive list, with Kennedy scoring 309 and Coronado 296.18. Flamm hit his second score in the 1-Meter 11-Dive list, scoring 449.33.
