Men's Swimming & Diving Breaks Records on Senior Day

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team sent off their seniors in style with a resounding win on Friday night, beating Westminster 207-43 in their final home dual of the 2024-25 season. Clarion not only won the dual but saw a handful of record-setting performances as well.

The first pool record to fall on Friday was the 200 Fly, where senior David Bocci logged one of the best swims of the year in Division II. The multiple-time NCAA qualifier and All-American touched the wall in a time of 1:48.88, breaking the pool record of 1:50.29 that he set just a few weeks ago in the meet against IUP. The time is one of the fastest in the event this year and would be tied for eighth in the nation entering this weekend's action.

Bocci broke another pool record later in the night, pacing the field in the 200 Back. He cruised to the front of the pack in the event with time of 1:53.89.

All told it was a thrilling night for the Golden Eagles, who far outpaced their competition for the entire evening. The 200 Medley Relay team kicked things off with a winning swim, with the foursome of Mason Peck, Henry Miller, Dominic Cortopassi and Austin Prokopec finishing in a time of 1:34.47. George Horey followed up with a clear win in the 1000 Free, coming up just three seconds shy of a pool record himself with a time 10:04.02.

Gavin Guckavan and Dylan Chaky went 1-2 in the 200 Free, with the former touching the wall in a time of 1:48.40 and the latter in 1:49.95. Miller and Cortopassi did likewise in the 100 Back, with Miller winning in a time of 52.65. Cortopassi was just 0.35 seconds behind him with a time of 53.00. Senior Michael Lintelman led the way in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:00.85, while Prokopec came close to a pool record in the 50 Free with a time of 21.17.

In the 100 Free, Mason Peck led a trio of Golden Eagles at the front of the pack, finishing in a winning time of 46.68. Richard Scholer and Miller took the top two spots in the 200 Breast, with Scholer finishing in 2:15.15, and Horey added a second win to his evening with a 4:59.43 in the 500 Free. Cortopassi got on the board with a win in the 100 Fly, hitting a time of 49.98, and Lintelman wrapped his final competition swim in Tippin Natatorium with a 2:00.02 in the 200 IM. The 200 Free Relay team of Dylan Chaky, Guckavan, Ryan Ehlers and Cortopassi won the last event of the night, coming in with a time of 1:27.25.

In the diving well, Zak Kennedy took first place in the 1-Meter Dive, followed closely by Michael Flamm (261.75) and Ethan Coronado (257.18). Coronado won the 3-Meter Dive with a score of 288.98, followed by senior Jack Beattie (281.78) and Flamm (263.78).
