LOCK HAVEN, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles women's basketball team saw their seven-game win streak snapped on the road on Friday, as Clarion fell 79-54 to Lock Haven in a PSAC crossover game at Thomas Fieldhouse. The streak had been the Golden Eagles' longest in 20 years.
Â
The Bald Eagles started to pull away in the game late in the first half, turning a two-point lead with under three minutes to play into an 11-point lead at halftime. Lock Haven outscored the Golden Eagles 9-0 in that time span, building up a double-digit advantage that they never relinquished in the second half.
Â
The Golden Eagles had an uncharacteristically cold night shooting from the field, with
Autumn Taylor ranking as the leading scorer with 13 points on 5-of-15 from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range.
Arianna Seitz chipped in 10 points, while
Tearra Cook had a team-high nine rebounds to go with four points and a block.
Â
Taylor had the Golden Eagles ahead early in the game, scoring in transition after a steal by
Zoe Guice near the halfway point of the first quarter. Seitz later added a three-pointer, making it 9-8 with 2:15 left to go in the first half, but the Bald Eagles outscored Clarion 7-3 the rest of the way in that period to take a 15-12 lead. The Golden Eagles started the second quarter on a 7-2 run, with Thornton knocking down a trey and then feeding Cook for a layup on the next offensive possession to even up the score. Guice closed out the run when she drew a foul from Alana Robinson on the fast break, making both free throws to go ahead 19-17.
Â
Things stayed tight for the next few minutes, with
Madison Palek scoring at the 6:04 mark of the second to tie the game at 21.
DayLynn Thornton scored with under three minutes to go to pull the Golden Eagles to within 31-29, but the Bald Eagles closed out the first half on an extensive run to take a 40-29 lead at the halftime break.
Â
That deficit grew to 18 points early in the third quarter, until
Siara Conley broke the drought with a bucket at the 4:58 mark. Nonetheless the Bald Eagles continued to push the issue, going up 63-41 at the end of the third quarter and cruising in the fourth to the win.
