Bocci Breaks Record, Hits NCAA Cut on Day 1 at Akron

AKRON, Ohio --- David Bocci set a school record and hit an NCAA "B" cut in the 200 Free, highlighting the Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team's first night at the Zippy Invite hosted by Akron.

Leading off the 800 Free Relay for the Golden Eagles, Bocci swam a split of 1:38.62 in his 200 yards. Not only did that crack the NCAA "B" cut mark of 1:40.00, but it also broke one of the oldest school records on the Clarion board. Bocci broke a 31-year-old record set by Steven Darby, a time of 1:38.95 set back in the 1992-93 season.

The swim also helped the Golden Eagles' foursome to a strong finish in the field primarily made up of Division I opponents. Clarion placed fifth in the 800 Free Relay with a team time of 6:40.63. Dominic Cortopassi swam the fastest leg of the race, coming in at 1:38.58.

Action kicked off on Thursday in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of Henry Miller, Cortopassi, Bocci and Austin Prokopec took seventh in the field with a time of 1:29.89.

Swimming will resume on Friday morning with preliminaries.
