Men Swimmers Put Up Second Big Day at Akron

AKRON, Ohio --- David Bocci shattered his own program record in the 500 Free and posted the best individual finish of the day for the Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team on Friday, taking second in the event to highlight the second day of the Zippy Invite hosted by Akron.

Bocci previously set the program record for the 500 Free at the Zippy Invite during the 2021-22 season, finishing in a time of 4:30.17 in that initial record-breaking swim. He smashed that time during the prelim swim on Friday, leading all competitors at the event with a time of 4:25.96. That time would also rank as the new top mark in the PSAC this season, edging out West Chester's Paul Demesy, who owns a time of 4:26.65.

He didn't hit that same mark in the finals, but Bocci still had a strong effort, taking second place with another blazing fast time. He touched the wall in 4:27.05, finishing just behind Cornell's Jacques Grove's winning time of 4:24.11.

Four Golden Eagles reached the finals of the 200 IM, with Dominic Cortopassi and Mason Irwin leading the way in the event. Cortopassi took sixth overall with a time of 1:49.54, an NCAA B cut that would rank third in the conference to date. Irwin finished 16th with a time of 1:52.52. Michael Lintelman and Richard Scholer finished 22nd and 24th respectively.

Three Golden Eagle men reached the finals of the 50 Free as well, with Austin Prokopec placing 16th in a time of 20.84. Gavin Guckavan was just behind him in 18th place, posting a time of 20.85, while Mason Peck placed 23rd in 21.40. The 500 Free featured four total Golden Eagles, with George Horey, Landon Seman and Isaac Wayne all reaching the finals.

Rounding out Friday's action was the 400 Medley Relay team of Henry Miller, Cortopassi, Bocci and Prokopec. The foursome finished with a time of 3:19.13, good for 10th place in the field.
