Records Fall on Third Day at Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio --- The men's 100 Breaststroke record fell twice in a matter of hours on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team wrapped up the third of four days at the Zippy Invite hosted by Akron.

Dominic Cortopassi broke the 10-year-old program record for the 100 Breaststroke in the morning prelims, touching the wall in a time of 55.07 during one of the time trials. That broke the record set by Derek Nelson in 2014, a 55.44 at the 2014 PSAC Championships.

Impressive though it was, Cortopassi's reign as the program record holder in the event lasted all of a few hours, as Gavin Guckavan broke it by fractions of a second in Saturday's finals. Guckavan placed second in his heat and 10th overall with a time of 55.02, setting a new record.

Five other Golden Eagles also reached the finals of the 100 Breaststroke on Saturday night. Henry Miller led the way for them with a time of 56.35.

In the 100 Fly, David Bocci and Mason Peck both finished in the top-16, with the former touching the wall in a time of 48.43. Peck finished in a time of 49.47. Dylan Chaky and Austin Prokopec also reached Saturday's finals, finishing in times of 50.76 and 50.93 respectively.

Michael Lintelman was the top finisher for the Golden Eagle men in the 400 IM, taking 10th overall with a time of 4:06.51. Three other Clarion swimmers reached the finals of the event, with Ryan Ehlers placing 15tth with a time of 4:18.03 and Kevin Santos taking 16th in 4:18.12. Eric Kim rounded things out with a 4:18.27.

Bocci came just short of surpassing a school record he set earlier this week, placing fourth in the 200 Free. The senior set a new school record with a time of 1:38.62 as the opening leg of the 800 Free Relay, and on Saturday night he took fourth place with a time of 1:39.00. That would have been just five-hundredths of a second off of the previous school record. Five other Golden Eagles reached the finals of the 200 Free, led by Matt Leitheiser's time of 1:46.71.

Logan Curtis rounded out the individual events for Clarion on Saturday. He took 15th in the 100 Back with a time of 52.52. The 200 Free Relay team of Austin Prokopec, Mason Peck, Gavin Guckavan and Stewart Messer took ninth place in the field with a time of 1:23.60.
