Men's Swimming & Diving Closes Strong at Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio --- David Bocci added one more NCAA B cut to his resume on Sunday afternoon, and the Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team wrapped up a successful four-day weekend at the Zippy Invite hosted by Akron.

Bocci showed off in what has historically been his best event, posting the fastest time of the preliminaries in the 200 Fly and hitting an NCAA B cut in the process. The senior hit a time of 1:46.80 on Sunday morning, less than a second off his own program record and just 0.11 off his pace at last year's NCAA Division II Championships. That also easily marked the best time of the season in the PSAC in the event, breaking his own previous season-best of 1:48.88.

In the evening finals, Bocci took third place overall in the field, logging a time of 1:47.47. Three other Golden Eagles also reached the 100 Fly finals, with Mason Irwin taking second in the B heat with a time of 1:50.94. Frankie DiMartini was seventh in the B heat with a time of 1:58.23, while George Horey finished with a time of 2:00.55 in the C heat.

In the first event of the night, three Golden Eagles competed in the 1650 Free, led by George Horey. The freshman finished in a time of 16:38.22 to take ninth place, following by Kevin Santos' 13th-place effort, a time of 16:51.89. Isaac Wayne rounded out that group with a time of 17:31.73.

The Golden Eagles had four finalists in the 200 Back on Sunday, led by Henry Miller, who took second in the B heat and 10th overall. He finished in a time of 1:54.17, which was actually the eighth-fastest time recorded in the event. Santos was just behind him at 1:58.53, and Landon Seman (1:59.06) and Logan Curtis (1:59.45) filled out the event.

Dominic Cortopassi just barely missed out on making an NCAA B cut in the 100 Free, taking 16 overall with a time of 45.70 in the B heat. His preliminary time on Sunday morning was even closer, with Cortopassi touching the wall in 45.51, just shy of the 45.23 standard. Four other Golden Eagles competed in the 100 Free final on Sunday, led by Gavin Guckavan's time of 45.86.

Five Golden Eagles also reached the 200 Breaststroke finals on Sunday, with the duo of Michael Lintelman and Rich Scholer both making the B heat. Lintelman took fifth in the heat with a time of 2:08.23 while Scholer was just fractions of a second behind him, coming in at 2:08.80.

Rounding out Sunday's action was the 400 Free Relay team of Cortopassi, Guckavan, Austin Prokopec and Irwin. They took eighth in the field with a time of 3:03.18.
