EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles men's swimming & diving team continued their first weekend of action in 2025, beating Edinboro 113.5-64.5 at the PennWest Duals on Saturday afternoon.
Â
It was Clarion's day from beginning to end on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles fielding the event winner in 11 of the 13 races at McComb Fieldhouse. That included a win in the first relay of the day, the 200 Medley Relay, and a rare tie for first in the 200 Free Relay. In the case of the former, the quartet of
Mason Peck,
Dominic Cortopassi,
Gavin Guckavan and
Austin Prokopec led the way with a time of 1:34.32, more than two seconds ahead of the finish by the Fighting Scots' foursome. In the case of the latter, the group of
Mason Irwin, Guckavan, Peck and Prokopec touched the wall in 1:26.23, at the exact same moment that the Fighting Scots di the same.
Â
David Bocci won the first individual event of the day for Clarion, showing off his versatility with a win in the 1000 Free. The senior finished in a time of 9:36.49, while teammate
Frankie DiMartini took second place. Bocci struck again for another win later in the day, winning the 100 Back with a time of 52.02.
Â
He was not the only two-time individual winner on Saturday, either. Cortopassi led the field in the 200 Free, beating the rest of the field by more than five seconds with a time of 1:42.02, and later won the 100 Breast with a time of 57.31.
Â
The wins carried on down the line for most of the Golden Eagles roster.
Gavin Guckavan edged out Edinboro's Frank Barger in the 50 Free, winning with a time of 21.48, while
Mason Irwin won the 400 IM with a time of 4:24.33. Matt Leitheiser was just behind him in that race, taking second with a time of 4:27.03, and he later won the 500 Free with a time of 5:03.60.
