GREENSBURG, Pa. — Seton Hill defeated Clarion in a PSAC matchup at the McKenna Center on Friday, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22).
Raegan Stader led the offensive effort with 10 kills on 24 attempts..
Haley Fledderjohann bolstered the defense by recording 16 digs and adding a service ace.
Finley Kearney posted four blocks, including one solo, while contributing four kills on nine attempts.
Marisa Markou dished out 19 assists.
The first set commenced with the Golden Eagles and the Griffins trading points, marked by several shifts in momentum.
Lauren Fjerstad initiated Clarion's scoring with a kill, assisted by Markou, leveling the score at 2-2. Clarion then surged ahead with service aces and multiple kills by Stader, extending their lead to 13-8. However, Seton Hill responded, resulting in a tightly contested set.
The Golden Eagles maintained pressure with key contributions from
Claire Bickett and Kearney, keeping the score close. Despite Clarion's late push, including a kill by
Emily Klopp, Seton Hill narrowly secured the set at 25-23.
Clarion began the second set with intensity, taking an early lead thanks to a block by Kearney and a kill by
Natalie Karrick. The visitors maintained momentum with additional kills from Markou and Bickett, keeping the score tight. However, Seton Hill responded with a series of points, including multiple kills by Payton Rodberg and Catie Flohr, to take a lead.
Despite a strong mid-set push from the Golden Eagles, which included key kills from Stader and Karrick, Seton Hill capitalized on several attack errors to regain control. Clarion's attempts to close the gap were hampered by errors, and despite a late effort featuring a kill by
Karlee Berchtold, Seton Hill closed the set at 25-20.
Midway through the third set, Clarion faced a challenging stretch as Seton Hill extended their lead to 8-2. The Golden Eagles called a timeout, regrouped, and responded with a series of kills by Berchtold and
Alaina Whitlinger, narrowing the gap to 10-8. Despite their efforts, Seton Hill maintained their advantage, leading 17-13 after a series of successful plays.
The Golden Eagles attempted a comeback with impactful kills from Stader and a service ace by Fledderjohann, closing the deficit to 24-22. However, Seton Hill sealed the set with a final kill by Flohr, ending the game with a score of 25-22 in favor of Seton Hill.
