EDINBORO, Pa. – Clarion (3-10-3, 3-7-3) fought to a 1-1 draw with Edinboro (8-7-1, 6-6-1) to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in program history, while
Ciara DiMauro tied the Golden Eagles' all-time leading points record with a goal in the second half.
The Golden Eagles opened the second half with intense offensive pressure, creating multiple scoring opportunities as
Nadia Gill was able to get a shot off. DiMauro capitalized on one of those chances, evening the score and tying the Golden Eagles' career points record. The play developed as Deal passed back to Dobb, who sent a cross into the box that DiMauro finished after the goalkeeper mishandled the ball.
DiMauro is now tied with Jill Miller for career points at Clarion with 37. Miller achieved her 37 points on a program-record 18 goals and one assist from 2007-10, while DiMauro now has 16 goals and five assists.
The Golden Eagles were able to get a shot off in the first three minutes by
Hailey Dobb. The defense stood firm early, as
Sage Sherk saved multiple shots, while the Fighting Scots' offense put on pressure. Then Edinboro's Emily Vogel got the first score of the game in the 21st minute.
Clarion attempted to answer immediately with a shot by DiMauro and kept pressure on the offensive end with a corner kick. Before the half ended,
Emily Sauvé attacked the Edinboro defense, but it was saved. The half ended with Edinboro leading 1-0.
As the second half unfolded, both defenses stood their ground, while both offenses created scoring chances.
Sage Sherk kept the game scoreless with four saves after Clarion's goal. On the offensive end, the Golden Eagles got more shots off, as
Madison Rose and
Evelyn Cook both got shots off. With neither team able to score, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Sage Sherk ended the game with seven saves on a total of 15 shots. While
Nadia Gill,
Madison Rose, and
Evelyn Cook put pressure on the Fighting Scots' defense, along with DiMauro.
