CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Golden Eagles softball team took the field for the second day of THE Spring Games on Sunday afternoon, falling in a pair of contests at Legends Way. Clarion lost 3-0 to Western Oregon in the early game before falling 9-1 to Dominican (N.Y.) in the late game.Â

RECAP: Runs were hard to come by in the first game of the doubleheader, as both starting pitchers did a good job limiting damage despite a combined 11 walks between the two of them.
Ainsley Perdicaris allowed three runs – just two earned – in the complete game, including three straight shutout innings from the second through the fourth innings.Â
Â
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, Wolves starter Abby Stansbury was just a bit better, limiting Clarion to just a single hit in the complete game shutout. The lone base hit came in the bottom of the second inning, when Delanie Davison shot a grounder through the middle of the infield. That followed a one-out walk from
Desi Allen, putting runners on first and second with one out, but the Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize.Â
Â
Clarion's best chance to score came in the bottom of the fourth inning, with the Golden Eagles trailing just 1-0. Allen drew a leadoff walk and Davison reached on an error when the first baseman dropped a throw from third on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Annika Smith laid down a sac bunt of her own, moving the runners into scoring position, but Stansbury got a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning.Â
Â
The Wolves scored an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning and added another in the seventh. Â
Â
Dominican (N.Y.) 9, Clarion 1 (6 inn.)Â

RECAP: The Chargers racked up a considerable advantage in the first two innings, scoring six runs and taking advantage of three Golden Eagles errors in the process. Clarion nearly cut into that lead in the top of the third inning, when
Annika Smith led off with an infield single and
Alexis Valencia dropped a single down the left field line to put two aboard. Â
Â
The Golden Eagles couldn't cash in on that opportunity, nor could they do so when they had two runners in scoring position in the top of the fourth. Allen advanced to third base on a single by Davison, and the latter stole second base with two outs, but Smith grounded out to short to end the threat.Â
Â
Clarion finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning while trailing 7-0. Haylie Rimmey hit a leadoff double to deep center field, and Allen advanced pinch runner
Malina Serrano to third with another fly ball. Smith brought Serrano across, pulling a single into left field for the RBI.
Brooke Dobson kept things going with an infield hit, and
Avery Bellish drew a walk to load the bases, but Valencia tapped out to second to end the threat. The Chargers scored twice in the bottom of the inning for the six-inning win.Â
