Golden Eagles Claim Home Split vs. Edinboro

CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles softball team earned their fourth straight conference doubleheader split on Saturday, taking the first game against Edinboro 4-1 before falling 3-1 to the Fighting Scots in the late game at Memorial Stadium.

Game 1: Clarion 4, Edinboro 1

RECAP: Delanie Davison stole the show in the first half of the doubleheader, going 2-for-4 at the dish with four RBIs and in doing so accounting for the entirety of Clarion's offensive output. The sophomore third baseman sparked things in the bottom of the third inning, after Alexis Valencia hit a one-out single and Emily Buchleitner drew a two-out walk to put runners on the corners. Davison smacked a three-run home run – her third of the season – to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

She later added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Buchleitner once again reached via walk, followed by a steal of second and an advance to third after a throwing error on her attempt. Davison rendered that a moot point with a triple to deep right field to make it 4-0.

Meanwhile, Ainsley Perdicaris was cruising along on the way to a complete game victory for her fourth win of the season. She held the Fighting Scots without a run until the top of the seventh inning, with the only blemish on her ledger coming on Emilia Marra's sacrifice fly with one out in that frame.  Perdicaris struck out two and walked two, finishing the game on 101 pitches.

Game 2: Edinboro 3, Clarion 1

RECAP: Davison once again accounted for the lion's share of the Golden Eagles' offense, recording two of their three hits in a pitcher's duel between Emma Hipps and Grace Kessel. With the game again scoreless in the bottom of the third inning, Davison hit a single through the left side of the infield to score Alexis Valencia from third, after the latter stole both second and third base to build on her own program single-season record.

Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, this was the only run they were able to push across home plate in the second game. Edinboro evened the score in the top of the fourth inning when Isabelle Bavaro came home on a wild pitch, and in the top of the seventh inning Bavaro hit a two-out, two-run single up the middle to plate a pair and make it 3-1.

The Golden Eagles had the opportunity to retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth, but a double play helped the Fighting Scots stay on top. Valencia reached on an error to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch, giving Clarion a runner in scoring position with no outs. Jordy Best drew a walk but was nailed at first on Emily Buchleitner's line drive at the bag, and Davison grounded out to end the inning. They had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings as well, but each time Kessel escaped the jam and preserved the score.
