CLARION, Pa. — Behind a dominant performance in the distance events and a series of sprint victories, the Clarion women's swimming and diving team put together a stellar showing Saturday at the PennWest Duals. The Golden Eagles beat Edinboro 114-90 and California (PA) 167-37.
The Golden Eagles set the tone early in the individual events as
Joslyn Jurski won the 1000 Free. Jurski cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 10:52.42, leading a Clarion sweep of the top two spots as teammate
Lillian Linscheid took second in 11:31.64. Jurski also secured a runner-up finish in the 500-yard freestyle later in the afternoon with a time of 5:22.69.
In the sprint events,
Amanda Fetsko and
Elli Knausz spearheaded the Golden Eagle effort. Fetsko captured the 100 Free title, touching the wall in 53.91 seconds, just ahead of Knausz who took third in 54.23. Knausz won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.89, leading a 1-2-3 Clarion finish alongside
Sarah Grimenstein (2:17.55) and
Eva Molenaar (2:18.34).
Rachael Hess provided more fireworks for the Blue and Gold, winning the 100 Fly with a blistering 58.85.
Clarion capped the meet with a thrilling victory in the 200 Free Relay. The quartet of Fetsko, Raely Fajohn, Jurski, and
Madelynn McTeer combined for a winning time of 1:39.27, narrowly edging out the competition by fifteen-hundredths of a second.
