CALABASH, N.C. --- Returning to action for the first time in the spring, the Golden Eagles women's golf team finished their first day at the Battle at Brunswick on Thursday. Clarion checked in at sixth in the team standings after 18 holes, with a team score of 371.

Hannah Smith had a strong day in her spring debut, placing seventh in the field with a score of 85 after one round. She largely managed to stay out of trouble, posting a 41 on the front nine and 44 on the back with eight pars made.

Just behind her was
Kennady Norton, who placed 21
st in the field after one round with a 92. Norton made the Golden Eagles' lone birdie of the day, making a three on the par four sixth hole.
McKayla Kerle was third on the team with a 94, while
Amber Roth rounded out the scoring with an even 100.

Action will continue on Friday with the second round of the tournament at Brunswick Plantation.
