KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Golden Eagles (6-9) faced a challenging doubleheader against Kutztown (6-6), suffering losses of 12-4 and 8-6 on Saturday at North Campus Field. Despite the setbacks, Clarion showcased impressive offensive power with five home runs across both games.
Kutztown 12, Clarion 4
In the first game, the Golden Eagles fell behind early, as Kutztown jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a fielding error and a wild pitch. Clarion struggled to respond in their half of the inning, leaving them trailing early. However, the Golden Eagles began to rally in the third inning.
Tyler Boraski launched a solo shot, followed by
Randy Carlo's two-run blast, narrowing the gap to 10-3 after Kutztown added four more runs. Boraski struck again in the fourth with his second home run, a solo drive to left center, but Kutztown maintained a strong lead at 10-4. The Bears added runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, finalizing the score at 12-4.
On the mound for Clarion,
Colin Miller pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, including two homers, while striking out four and walking two.
Jalen Sami added two innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with a walk.
Aiden Gruber pitched 2/3 of an inning scoreless, striking out one. Offensively, Carlo led the charge with two hits, including a home run and two RBIs, while Boraski flexed his muscle with two homers, driving in two and scoring twice.
Tyson Gill had a stolen base.
Kutztown 8, Clarion 6
In the second game, the Golden Eagles fought hard but were unable to overcome a strong Kutztown offense that produced 11 hits. The Bears took an early lead in the second inning with RBI singles from Bryce Schafer and Preston Warne, putting them up 2-0. As the game progressed, Kutztown extended their lead to 4-0 in the fourth with a two-run triple by Bo Barthol. However, Clarion rallied in the fifth inning. Zach Colangelo doubled and was driven in by a
Tyson Gill single.
Randy Carlo's walk set the stage for
Ethan Giangiulio, who launched a three-run homer down the left field line, leveling the score at 4-4.
Kutztown responded in the sixth with a solo shot from Schafer and an RBI single, reclaiming the lead at 6-5. They added to their advantage in the seventh with a sacrifice fly and an RBI from Michael Burns on a fielding error, making it 8-5. Clarion narrowed the gap in the eighth when Carlo slugged a solo home run, bringing the score to 8-6, but Kutztown held on for the victory.
Zach Kelly pitched four innings in the second game, allowing six hits and four earned runs, with two strikeouts and three walks.
Luke Pietrandrea relieved him, pitching 1 1/3 innings with two hits and two earned runs, adding a strikeout and two walks.
Logan Hinds provided 1 1/3 innings with three hits and two runs, but just one earned, while
Ryan Gallagher finished strong with 1 1/3 innings, not giving up a hit or run and striking out two batters. Gill contributed with two runs, a hit, and an RBI, while Carlo scored twice, notched a hit with a homer, and drew two walks. Giangiulio drove in three RBIs with two hits, including a homer.
