CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Eagles soccer team lost to Lock Haven 1-0 on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium. It was a tight contest throughout with both teams trading chances, but the Bald Eagles scored late to lock up the win. The loss snapped Clarion's four-game unbeaten streak to open the season.
Clarion finished with a 15-7 shot advantage, including eight shots in the first half, but put three attempts on goal.
The Golden Eagles controlled much of the first-half attacking volume, putting together five shots and a corner kick from 16:03 to 23:46 but could not break through. Earlier in that stretch,
Ciara DiMauro and
Kelly O'Donnell forced saves from Devon Mason, while
Samantha Gold,
Evelyn Cook and
Reise Klein also added attempts.
Sage Sherk kept the match scoreless later in the half, saving back-to-back shots from Maci Shaffer in the 33rd minute as the Bald Eagles generated pressure.
Leah Deal gave the Golden Eagles another look in the 38th minute before the Bald Eagles earned two late corners, and the half ended without a goal.
The Golden Eagles generated the longer attacking push of the second half but could not answer the Bald Eagles' goal in the 83rd minute, as Bryn Constanzer scored at 82:29 to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Earlier, the Golden Eagles created a run of chances after halftime with O'Donnell taking shots in the 50th and 56th minutes,
Carmella Simco adding an attempt, and the Golden Eagles earning corners at 50:33 and 59:54.
Sage Sherk kept the match level during that stretch with saves on Lily O'Brien at 53:38 and Colleen Lloyd at 66:01, while
Samantha Gold put a shot on frame at 63:36 that Devon Mason saved. The Golden Eagles continued to push after the goal, getting shots from
Evelyn Cook at 82:41 and
Reise Klein at 86:46, but the half ended with the Bald Eagles holding the 1-0 final score.
Samantha Gold led the Golden Eagles with four shots and put one on goal. O'Donnell added three shots, including one on frame.
Sage Sherk played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with four saves.
