CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Eagles soccer team peppered the opposing net with shots in the second half on Wednesday night, but Clarion ultimately lost to Edinboro 1-0 at Memorial Stadium in a PSAC West clash. The Golden Eagles generated eight of their 12 shots in the second half, but all six of their shots on goal were saved.
The Golden Eagles put together multiple attacking stretches in the first half but could not turn them into a goal, going into halftime behind the Fighting Scots 1-0. Earlier, Sage Sherk saved Jada Cole's shot in the fourth minute, and the Golden Eagles answered with Sydney Taracatac's attempt at 7:55 before Ciara DiMauro's shot and corner kicks at 13:51 and 15:08 kept the pressure on.
The Fighting Scots went ahead at 25:12 when Sydney Patterson scored off Grace Madison's corner kick after Sherk had saved Patterson's earlier shot at 24:04. The Golden Eagles responded with Taracatac shots at 26:10 and 29:51 and corner kicks at 29:18 and 32:11, but the half ended with the Fighting Scots holding the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles pressed for the equalizer throughout a scoreless second half, outshooting the Fighting Scots 8-3 and forcing six saves from Brianna Garey while still trailing. After the Fighting Scots had a blocked shot and corner in the 47th minute, the Golden Eagles answered with four shots in less than two minutes: Nadia Gill and MaKenna Doran had attempts saved, Gill missed high and Kelly O'Donnell put a shot on frame at 50:26.
The Golden Eagles continued to play through a physical half, with fouls on both teams in the opening stretch and another run of fouls late before Evelyn Cook received a yellow card at 86:41. Sydney Taracatac put a shot on goal in the 82nd minute, and Samantha Gold's header attempt with less than a minute remaining was stopped by a diving Garey to secure the win.
