CLARION, Pa. — Clarion (5-8-4, 4-8-4) wrapped up the 2026 season with an exciting game at home, falling to Gannon (13-2-3, 12-2-2) 2-1 on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the game and rocked a pair of shots off the woodwork but could not even things up against the Golden Knights.
Ciara DiMauro set up Paige Brewer at 32:33 as the Golden Eagles opened the scoring and took a 1-0 lead in the first half, with the duo tallying the goal on a terrific give and go. Deep in the Golden Eagles' defensive end, Brewer advanced the ball through traffic to DiMauro and then followed up on the pass, sprinting up the middle of the field. DiMauro carried the ball for a while before flicking a pass through the Gannon defense, finding Brewer on a sprint toward net. Going 1-on-1 against keeper Alva Wennstroem, Brewer fired for her first goal of the season and third of her career.
Earlier, the Golden Eagles absorbed early Golden Knights pressure that included two corner kicks and two shots in the first nine minutes, then created a chance of their own when Evelyn Cook hit the top woodwork at 19:50. Sage Sherk kept the match scoreless with a save on Brooklyn Respecki at 25:42, and the Golden Eagles later held through two Golden Knights corner kicks shortly after Brewer's goal. DiMauro added another shot on frame in the 36th minute, but the Golden Knights tied the match at 39:56 on a Grace Emanuel goal, sending the teams into halftime even at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles spent much of the second half chasing after the Golden Knights' Amelya Bretz scored in the 62nd minute off an assist from Hannah Shepard, putting the Golden Eagles behind 2-1. Earlier, the Golden Eagles created a quick attacking spell with corner kicks at 48:52 and 49:44, MaKenna Doran forcing a save and DiMauro sending a shot wide. Sherk kept the Golden Eagles within reach during Golden Knights pressure, making a save on Respecki in the 60th minute, and Nathalie Twigg nearly answered in the 70th minute with a rocket shot off the woodwork. The Golden Eagles absorbed more late chances, including Sherk saves in the 78th and 88th minutes and a team save in the 82nd, but could not find another goal before the Golden Knights closed out the 2-1 result.
