EAGLE NETTERS DEFEAT KUTZTOWN

            (Kutztown, Pa.) The Clarion women's doubles tennis teams found their confidence and brought three points to start the 9-0 win over Kutztown on Saturday.

            The No. 1 doubles team of Jaclyn Metzger and Lauren Zezenski started the winning off by defeating Hannah Pipkin and Tori Zander 8-5. Megan Bettwy and Lauren Rhine defeated Rachel Grula and Chelsea White 9-8, 8-6 at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles team of Madeline Robinson and Drusilla Keeling-Woolbright had a rough start and was down 5-1 against Ridima Borooah and Cynthia Good. Coach Lori Sabatose stepped out onto the court and told them to pick up their game, stay confident and in control. They calmed down, focused on their hitting and slammed some points to come back to win 8-6.

            The singles matches started out with the undefeated Megan Bettwy at No. 3 quickly dominating Tori Zander 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 Jaclyn Metzger raised her game level and defeated Hannah Pipkin 6-3, 4-6, 10-1. Robinson and Zezenski were the last singles to complete their sets. They both played a 10 point tie breaker because Clarion had already won the match. Lauren Zezenski defeated Rachel Grula 3-6, 7-6, 7-3, 10-8 at No. 2 and Madeline Robinson defeated Chelsea White 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 4. Lauren Rhine stepped up her game and defeated Cynthia Good 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5; and Brittany Buchheit defeated Nancilee Romano 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

            The Golden Eagles will return home to Campbell Courts to compete against Pitt-Greensburg Sunday at 2 p.m.
