EDINBORO, Pa. –
Megan Bettwy and
Madeline Robinson each had hard-fought first-set losses, but the Clarion University women's tennis team fell 9-0 at Edinboro in PSAC action Tuesday afternoon.
Bettwy dropped a 6-4 decision to Edinboro's Julia Hellstern in the first set of the No. 2 singles competition before falling 6-1 in the second set, while Robinson lost 6-3 in the first set of the No. 3 singles competition to RyAnne' Baldwin before retiring in the second set down 2-0 after the outcome of the match was decided.
At No. 1 singles, Clarion's
Lauren Zezenski fell 2-0 (6-0, 6-2) to Edinboro's Oranza Carrillo, while at No. 4 singles
Jessica Kennelly dropped a 2-0 decision to Raquel Holiday (6-1, 2-1 retired). At No. 5 singles,
Jessica Dgien lost 6-0, 6-1 to Nevena Kulina, and at No. 6 singles,
Allison Probst fell 6-0, 6-1 to Megan Cowling.
In doubles action, Zezenski and Robinson dropped an 8-3 decision to Carrillo and Holiday at No. 1, Kennelly and Bettwy fell 8-1 at No. 2 to Baldwin and Hellstern and Probst and Dgien lost 8-0 to Cowling and Lydia Brown at No. 3.
With the loss, Clarion falls to 3-11 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC West. The Golden Eagles are back in action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they host Seton Hill.
