CLARION (7-3, 4-2) VISITS KUTZTOWN (6-4, 5-2) SATURDAY

Clarion travels to Kutztown on Saturday, November 14 to take on the Golden Bears in the 2015 football season finale for both schools. Kickoff at Andre Reed Stadium is set for 1:05pm.

The game could be a high scoring contest, given the fact that the two teams combined average over 71 points per game (Kutztown 36.6; Clarion 34.9) in 2015. Last year's matchup saw Kutztown win 41-35 in overtime with the teams combining for 1,044 yards of total offense.

All the game action between Clarion and Kutztown can be heard on the Golden Eagle radio network, which includes WCCR-FM, 92.7 in Clarion and WKQW-FM, 96.3 in Oil City, as well as on the internet at Redzonemedia.com with Mike Kalinowski providing the play by play and Joe Lodanosky offering color commentary.

CLARION 7-3; 4-3 IN WEST UNDER COACH CHRIS WEIBEL

After jumping out to a 7-0 start, the Golden Eagles are in the midst of a three game losing streak. Last week Clarion ran into a buzz saw at SRU losing 65-13. Before that Clarion led IUP 14-13 at halftime, but lost 28-14 and three weeks ago lost 42-28 at Cal.

A month ago Clarion ran up a school record 676 yards of total offense in the game, including 432 passing yards by Connor Simmons and 309 all-purpose yards by Delrece Williams, in the Eagles 44-29 win over Seton Hill. Before that the Eagles topped Edinboro on the road 36-23, and on Homecoming bested Mercyhurst 41-27. Simmons passed for 441 yards and 3 td's, plus ran for 2 td's in the win over the Lakers. Clarion opened PSAC-West play with a stunning 47-31 win at Gannon, a team that was the pre-season pick to win the West. In that game Connor Simmons passed for 350 yards and 4 td's, with all four td passes going to Matt Lehman. Eight weeks ago Clarion jumped out to a 31-6 halftime advantage against Cheyney and rolled to a 59-6 win. The 53-point winning margin was the third highest in Golden Eagle football history. In week two the Eagles defeated Millersville 27-21 after getting out to a 20-7 halftime lead. The Eagles opened 2015 with an impressive 40-13 win at Lock Haven.

Clarion's 7-0 start – was its best since Gene Sobolewski was the head coach in 1983 and the Eagles opened the year 7-0 and went on to win the PSAC Championship 27-14 over East Stroudsburg in Hershey. That team finished 9-2.

KUTZTOWN 6-4 OVERALL & 5-2 IN PSAC-EAST

Kutztown head football coach Jim Clements is in his second season leading the Golden Bears and has his team on a three-game winning streak and finished 5-2 in the PSAC-East, tied for second place. Kutztown opened the year with a 41-37 loss to Assumption, then came back and defeated IUP 34-33. The Bears lost 66-31 to Gannon, then defeated Cheyney (34-0) and Millersville (47-14), before losing to West Chester (44-14) and Bloomsburg (27-21 OT). The Bears are finishing on a high note with wins over East Stroudsburg (63-17), Lock Haven (34-20) and Shippensburg (51-27), which knocked the Raiders out of the PSAC title game.

CLARION LEADS KUTZTOWN 15-8 IN SERIES DATING BACK TO 1941

Clarion leads the overall series between the two schools 15-8 dating back to 1941. Since 1998 Clarion and Kutztown have dueled to a 7-7 record, with the most recent game coming last year in a Kutztown 41-35 overtime win at Memorial Stadium. Clarion went ahead 35-28 with only 24-seconds left in the game on a 41-yard pass from Connor Simmons to Jaron Moorer. Kutztown scored on the game's final play, a 32-yard pass from Chad Barton to Kodi Reed, and then in overtime for the win.

In the 2013 season opener when Clarion won in exciting fashion 39-38 in overtime, also at Memorial. Clarion booted a field goal to tie the game on the final play to make it 32-32, then in the second overtime period both teams scored td's, but Kutztown missed the PAT and Clarion converted for the win.

Clarion rallied from a 20-0 halftime deficit at Kutztown in 2008 to win 26-20. Other Clarion wins came in 2005 (29-23 in 4 overtimes – a PSAC record for most ot's in a game), 2002 (31-7), 2001 (36-7), 1999 (31-21) and 1998 (23-16).

Kutztown has wins in 2009 (25-6), 2007 (35-13), 2006 (27-10), 2004 (25-14), 2003 (20-19),2000 (17-14).

The game between the two schools with the most on the line came back in 1980 when Clarion downed Kutztown 15-14 in the PSAC title game at Clarion.

Only 2 receivers have reached that level at Clarion – Alvin Slaughter (1,369 – 1998) and Bob Green (1,018 – 1984). In 2014 he grabbed 25 passes for 540 yards and 2 td's and latched onto 13 passes for 159 yards and 1 td in 2013. He has 99 career catches for 1,582 yards and 17 td's.
