CLARION, Pa. – As part of Clarion's 150^th Anniversary celebration set to conclude this fall, Director of Athletics Dr. Wendy Snodgrass announced today that the Golden Eagle football team will open their 2018 season with a game at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.  Clarion squares off with Shippensburg on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a 1 p.m. kickoff time.
 
"We are excited to cap our sesquicentennial celebration with this special event for our student-athletes, coaches and fans," Snodgrass said.  "Playing against the backdrop of the city of Pittsburgh, with the opportunity to welcome back our many alumni from the area, I am confident this will be a memorable day for our entire athletic department and the university."
 
Highmark Stadium is a 5,000-seat stadium located in Pittsburgh's Station Square, adjacent to the Monongahela River.  The hybrid-turf field is the permanent home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, a professional soccer team competing in the United Soccer League (USL).  The venue also accommodates other sporting events, including football, lacrosse, rugby, as well as non-sporting events.
 
The Golden Eagle football team hosts Shippensburg in the 2018 season opener on Sept. 1, followed by a road game at Lock Haven the following week.  Clarion will play its first game of the year at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 15 when they welcome Lincoln (Pa.).
