Football to Open '18 Season at Highmark Stadium

CLARION, Pa. – As part of Clarion's 150th Anniversary celebration set to conclude this fall, Director of Athletics Dr. Wendy Snodgrass announced today that the Golden Eagle football team will open their 2018 season with a game at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.  Clarion squares off with Shippensburg on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a 1 p.m. kickoff time.

"We are excited to cap our sesquicentennial celebration with this special event for our student-athletes, coaches and fans," Snodgrass said.  "Playing against the backdrop of the city of Pittsburgh, with the opportunity to welcome back our many alumni from the area, I am confident this will be a memorable day for our entire athletic department and the university."

Highmark Stadium is a 5,000-seat stadium located in Pittsburgh's Station Square, adjacent to the Monongahela River.  The hybrid-turf field is the permanent home of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, a professional soccer team competing in the United Soccer League (USL).  The venue also accommodates other sporting events, including football, lacrosse, rugby, as well as non-sporting events.

The Golden Eagle football team hosts Shippensburg in the 2018 season opener on Sept. 1, followed by a road game at Lock Haven the following week.  Clarion will play its first game of the year at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 15 when they welcome Lincoln (Pa.).
