Track & Field Makes Mark at Kent State Tune-Up

KENT, Ohio – The Clarion track & field team competed in a large field comprised of teams from all NCAA divisions, making their mark with strong performances at the Kent State Tune-Up.

Style Henry competed in the Long Jump for the first time this year and subsequently qualified for the PSAC Championships.  The sophomore surpassed the conference's qualifying mark by two centimeters, making a jump of 5.12m on her first attempt of the day.  That was good enough to place her 14th in the field.  She also ran in the 60m, recording a time of 8.14 in the dash.

Other sprinters also showed flashes of excellence on Saturday, with freshman Alice Fernald taking fifth in the 400m.  The first-year runner took fourth among Division II athletes and won her heat with a time of 58.91, the third-fastest time in Clarion history and just 0.18 seconds behind Alexis Carter's second-place mark.  Courtney Young had a strong run in the 200m, finishing in 27.07.

In the distance events, Anna Foster had a strong day in the 5000m, taking 10th in the field with a time of 19:15.38.  Joelle Klein came in 14th with a time of 19:42.87.  Allison Gates took 17th in the 3000m, recording a time of 11:07.78.  Wrapping up the day was the 4x400 Relay "A" team, which took fourth with a time of 4:13.50.
