The Kickoff  Â
The Golden Eagles will return to the field, as well as the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium, to host the Seton Hill Griffins in the penultimate home game of the 2021 season. Kickoff against the Griffins is set for noon.
Series History
- This will be the eighth meeting between the two teams, with Clarion owning a 5-2 record in the all-time series with Seton Hill in a rivalry that dates back only to 2013. The Golden Eagle defense shut out the Griffins in their first-ever meeting, with the lone Seton Hill score a safety as Clarion won 41-2 at Memorial Stadium.
- Clarion has won three consecutive meetings with Seton Hill, including two of the last three contests staged at Memorial Stadium. Three of the last four games were decided by a single score, with the Golden Eagles winning 19-16 at Offutt Field in 2018, and holding on for a 33-28 win at Memorial Stadium in 2017. The Griffins got the better end of the deal in 2016, winning 27-23.
- The last meeting between the teams was the outlier, as Clarion scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to beat the Griffins in a 42-16 rout at Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles scored a pair of special teams touchdowns, including a blocked punt returned for a score by Rayonte Campbell and a 90-yard kickoff return by Terrell Ford.Â
About the Opponent
- Seton Hill was predicted to finish sixth in the PSAC West in the preseason coaches poll after finishing 2-8 during the 2019 season. With their three wins so far this year, they have already matched their previous two seasons' wins totals combined.
- The Griffins opened their season with back-to-back wins against Wheeling and Bloomsburg, and earned their first PSAC West win of the season on Oct. 9 with a 19-17 victory over Mercyhurst. Four of Seton Hill's games this year have been decided by one touchdown or less, and only one of their games this season was decided by more than 11 points.
- Seton Hill has the lowest scoring offense in the PSAC this season, averaging just 12.1 points per game, but their defense ranks among the league's best, allowing just 17.7 points per game. Â The Griffins also rank third in the PSAC overall and first in the PSAC West in sacks with 22.
- Â Logan Wiland is the leading rusher in the PSAC, averaging 103.1 yards per game on the ground, and also has five rushing touchdowns this season. Three of the top five tacklers in the PSAC are Griffins: Jaylen McDuffie (2nd - 10.0 tackles/game), Narrio Walks (4th - 9.1 tackles/game) and Jayden Emberton-Gaines (5th - 9.0 tackles/game). Damonte Pratt is tied for second in the PSAC with three interceptions this season.
Last Time Out
- The Golden Eagle offense found a couple of sparks – some from the usual suspects, and some from some newer faces – but Clarion was unable to top IUP at Memorial Stadium on Oct. 9. They fell by a final score of 58-21 in the Golden Eagles' Homecoming game.
- Zechariah Sanderson made his first career start at quarterback for the Golden Eagles, with the freshman making an immediate connection with two of his top receiving threats. Quinn Zinobile and Terrell Ford both went over 100 yards receiving, marking the second time this season two Golden Eagles broke the century mark. They combined for 222 yards and two scores against the Crimson Hawks.
- Nathan Roby finished the game with 111 all-purpose yards. He recorded eight rushes for a game-high 66 yards and caught four passes for 44 yards.Â
- Defensively, Drew Blon had a game-high 13 tackles, while Amari Johnson and Jake Baker each made eight stops. Blon and Baker also recorded pass break-ups.

History is in Sight
- Senior running back Mylique McGriff was a 2019 First Team All-PSAC West running back after leading the conference with an average of 104.5 rushing yards per game. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry in 2019, the fourth-highest average in the PSAC among backs with 150 carries.
- McGriff entered the season needing 743 yards to break the program rushing record. He now needs 541 yards in the final five games to top Elton Brown's record.
Clarion's Career Rushing Leaders
- Elton Brown - 3,069
- Steve Witte - 2,850
- Gary Frantz - 2,778
- Mylique McGriff - 2,529
- Eddie Emmanuel - 2,371
- Alfonso Hoggard - 2,350
More History for Mylique
- With his touchdown plunge against Gannon on Sept. 25, Mylique McGriff continued his climb up another statistical category in program history - rushing touchdowns.
- McGriff now has 19 career scores on the ground, tying him with Bill Wise (1966-68) and Ron DeJidas (1993-97) for fifth on the program's rushing touchdowns list.
- While it seems unlikely McGriff will get the 23 rushing touchdowns necessary to wrestle the program record of 41 away from Steve Witte -– though anything is possible, right? –  he needs just five more touchdowns the rest of the way to move into sole possession of fourth place, above Elton Brown.
Fine, Here's A Rundown of Where Mylique McGriff Ranks on Clarion's Career Rushing Records Lists
- Rushing Yards - 4th - 2,529
- Rush Attempts - 6th - 510
- Rushing Touchdowns - T-5th - 19
- Average Rush Yards/Game - 1st - 84.3
The Mighty Quinn
- Receiver Quinn Zinobile continues to rack up the stats in 2021, and is among the conference's leaders in most statistical categories.
- Zinobile is two off the PSAC lead in touchdown receptions with six scores so far this season.Â
- Zinobile is tied for sixth in the PSAC in overall touchdowns scored, with seven total trips to the end zone (six receiving, one rushing).
Zinobile's Feat - Rarer Than You Think!
- Quinn Zinobile scored twice in the effort against IUP on Oct. 9, catching a touchdown pass and rushing for one as well.Â
- That was the first time a Golden Eagle caught a touchdown and ran for a touchdown in the same game since Oct. 17, 2015, when running back Delrece Williams scored twice against Seton Hill at Memorial Stadium.
Double-Dip Part Deux
- Against IUP on Oct. 9, Quinn Zinobile and Terrell Ford both went over 100 yards receiving, marking the second time this season two Golden Eagles broke the century mark.
- Ford added eight catches for 115 yards and a score, while Zinobile recorded six grabs for 107 yards and a touchdown.
- It is the second time this season that two Golden Eagle receivers went over 100 yards receiving in the same game. Zinobile (202) and Kahliq Muhammad (102) previously turned the trick against Shippensburg on Sept. 18.
Zech Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself
- Quarterback Zechariah Sanderson made his first career start on Oct. 9 against IUP, improving as the game went on and finishing with a solid stat line.
- Sanderson completed 21-of-35 passes for 284 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
- Sanderson is the third Golden Eagle quarterback to start a game this season and the fourth to see significant game action: both Kyle Knight and Michael Proios were lost to injury earlier in the year.
Ford the River
- Terrell Ford had his second career 100-yard receiving game in the Blue & Gold on Oct. 9, catching eight passes for 115 yards and a touchdown against IUP.
- The eight receptions tied for his best total in a Clarion uniform, and the 115 yards represented his best output since recording 152 receiving yards against Gannon on Sept. 28, 2019.
- His 52-yard touchdown reception against the Crimson Hawks now represents his longest career reception at Clarion, topping a 37-yarder he posted last year against Lock Haven.
Slipping Through the Cracks
- Despite being officially listed at 5-7, 155 pounds, running back / wide receiver Nathan Roby proved to be difficult to bring down when he faced IUP on Oct. 9.
- The freshman athlete got a significant number of snaps at running back and showed great ability eluding tacklers on handoffs, as well as taking on defenders when running routes.
- Roby finished with eight carries for 66 rushing yards, and four catches for 44 receiving yards, for 110 all-purpose yards against the Crimson Hawks.
Going Ham
- Kareem Hamdan has gotten off to a good start in 2021, showing that he has a nose for making stops all over the field.
- The sophomore linebacker leads the team with 50 total tackles in the first six games. He ranks eighth in the PSAC with an average of 8.3 tackles per game through Week 7.
PSAC Announces Partnership with BlueFrame Technology for PSAC Sports Digital Network
- The PSAC announced in July that it reached a five-year partnership with BlueFrame technology to create an end-to-end digital network for all 18 member institutions.
- The PSAC Sports Digital Network will be available on the web along with streaming applications for television and mobile devices for Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku (TV), iOS, Android (mobile) and Amazon Fire Tablet. The app will be able to be found and installed by searching for the PSAC Sports Digital Network.
Next Week
- The Golden Eagles will honor their seniors in the final home game of their careers, when Clarion hosts Mercyhurst at Memorial Stadium on October 30. Kickoff is set for noon.
- Clarion will try to snap a three-game skid against the Lakers, who have won each meeting between the teams since 2017. The last Golden Eagle win was the PSAC West opener in 2016, a come-from-behind win for Clarion.
