CRESSON, Pa. - An early second half goal from freshman
Kylee Cross was the difference maker on Wednesday night as the Clarion women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season, beating Mount Aloysius by a final score of 1-0. The win over the Mounties not only marks the first win of the year for the Golden Eagles but also the first win under the direction of head coach
Alexa Ream.Â
"This is a well deserved win from a great overall team performance." Ream stated. "This was a tremendous showing of consistency, effort and playing to our standards."
Goaltender
Brynn Markley got the nod in between the posts for the Golden Eagles, notching a shutout in the first half, and side-kick
Alexandra Velez stonewalled the Mounties in the second half.Â
When asked about the effort Ream said, " Their performance was so strong and on offense we created a number of dangerous chances in the attacking end."
Macy McCarthy,
Jaci Bowser and
Madison Spitko peppered the Mountie keeper all game long but were unable to capitalize on the multiple chances.Â
Clarion improves to 1-2-0 on the year, while Mount Aloysius falls to 5-1-0 on the season. Looking to make it two wins in a row, the Golden Eagles play host to Mercyhurst on Sunday, April 18. First kick is slated for 1 pm at Memorial Stadium.Â
