Baseball Falls on the Road to East Stroudsburg

STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Clarion baseball team traveled to PSAC East opponent East Stroudsburg in one seven and one nine inning game on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 11-2 and 10-1. Clarion (0-6) will head to UNC Pembroke on March 4 for a weekend series before back to Millersville to take on the Marauders on March 9.

Game 1: East Stroudsburg 11, Clarion 2
Recap:
East Stroudsburg got off to a hot start scoring all 11 runs in the first four frames, using 11 hits and two homeruns to build an early deficit that was to big to overcome for the Golden Eagles.

Clarion racked up eight hits throughout the ball game, pushing two runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning making the score 11-2. Clarion's Brett Pitzer led the inning off with a 3-1 walk, and Griffin Snyder reached first courtesy of a hit by pitch on a 1-2 fastball, putting runners on first and second base with no outs.

Caden Contant singled to load the bases for the Blue and Gold and after a Mason Kepler gap single, both Pitzer and Snyder were able to score before ending the inning on a swinging strikeout.

Reilly Shafer got the nod for head coach Doc Neiman on the bump, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits, while striking out four Warrior batters.

Game 2: East Stroudsburg 10, Clarion 1
Recap:
The home opened with a quick 2-0 lead scoring runs in both the bottom of the first inning and the second. East Stroudsburg tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 4-0.

Clarion managed to get a run of their own in the top of the sixth inning. Scott McManamon legged out an infield single to third base to start the inning and advanced to second base on a wild-pitch putting their lone baserunner on scoring position to quickly start the inning.

Contant doubled on a 2-2 pitch and traded places with McManamon as Clarion made the score 4-1, but the Warriors JP Nolan settled into the inning closing the door on anymore score attempts for the Golden Eagles.

East Stroudsburg answered with two runs in the seventh inning and exploded for four runs in the bottom of the eighth innings as the Warriors stretched their lead to the ultimate decision, 10-1.

McMananmon swung the hot bat for the Blue and Gold, going 2 for 4 in game two and scoring the lone Clarion run.
