Wrestling Drops Final Match of Weekend, Falls to Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Golden Eagle wrestling team finished off their three-match road swing on Sunday afternoon, falling by a 33-8 score to Navy at Dahlgren Hall. Clarion won three of the bouts on the day and dropped a couple of close ones elsewhere, with the Midshipmen taking a number of toss-ups.

Of Clarion's three wins on the day, two of them came during the sudden victory period. The first was the very first bout of the afternoon, when 30th-ranked Seth Koleno overcame a challenge from Tyler Hunt at 141 pounds. Koleno notched a five-point first period to take a 5-2 lead after three minutes of action, and led 7-5 before Hunt tied it 8-8 at the end of regulation. It was just 22 seconds into the overtime period before Koleno ended it, coming in on a double-leg and working his way for the bout-winning takedown.

The Midshipmen responded with two wins by fall and a win by injury default at 165 pounds, giving them an 18-3 lead heading into 174. John Worthing and Cael Crebs were tied at 2 in the third period, with Worthing escaping at the start to briefly take the lead. Crebs took Worthing down with just seconds remaining in regulation but the bout was ultimately tied at 4-4 thanks to Worthing's riding time advantage. The two were tied up on the edge of the mat 45 seconds into the overtime period, with Worthing working his arm over and tripping Crebs for the takedown.

From there, things were much more even, though Navy got the advantage in the next three bouts. Nationally-ranked wrestlers David Key and Jacob Koser held on for tight decisions over Max Wohlabaugh and Will Feldkamp, respectively, and Ryan Catka took a slim 2-0 decision over Ty Bagoly.

Joey Fischer wrapped up the last Golden Eagle win of the day in the 125-pound bout, earning the only takedown of the match against Jacob Allen for the decision. Fischer got the escape to start the second period to take a 1-0 lead, and things were tied midway through the third after Allen returned the favor. Fischer deftly avoided a shot by Allen and spun around him for the takedown, locking up the decision.
