BUTLER, Pa. - The Clarion baseball team hosted Gannon on Friday to open a four game stretch with the Golden Knights, falling by scores of 11-0 in the early game and 6-1 in the nightcap. Clarion (9-22) will look to get back into the win column tomorrow when they play the last two games of the series in Erie.Â
Game 1: Gannon 11, Clarion 0
Recap: Gannon jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, scoring five runs in the top of the second inning, using five hits and one Clarion error.Â
The Golden Eagles picked up one hit in the bottom of the third inning, after
Kasey Shughart singled to left center field and
Nate Petke advanced to second after drawing a walk a few batters earlier.Â
The Gannon bats exploded for six runs on six hits and two Clarion errors, putting the game out of reach, 11-0, in the top of the fifth inning and the Blue and Gold were never able to gain their footing.Â
Clarion added hits in the top of the fifth inning and one in the bottom of the sixth inning but stranded base runners in both innings.Â
Anthony Tucci got the start for Clarion on the mound, tossing 4.0 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, while striking out four Gannon batters.Â
Game 2: Gannon 6, Clarion 1
Recap: Just like game one, Gannon jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, four runs in top of the third inning and one run in the fourth inning to take a quick 6-0 lead.Â
Clarion finished the game with one run on three hits as
Michael Proios took the loss for Clarion on the mound. The righty tossed 5.0 innings surrendering six runs on six hits, while striking out two batters.Â
Clarion managed to score their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning, using one hit and a pair of walks to score the run. Â
Griffin Snyder led the inning off with a walk and advanced to second base after Shughart singled to the shortstop.Â
Matt Privette reached safely on a fielder's choice, moving Snyder to third and advanced to second to load the bases after
Caden Contant drew a walk.Â
Danny Fox grounded out ot the first basemen and scored Snyder from third but that is all the closer Clarion would get.Â
