Colondrillo's Goal Lifts Clarion Over IUP, 1-0

CLARION, Pa. – Marisa Colondrillo scored the first goal of her collegiate career in a critical moment, lifting the Golden Eagle soccer team to a 1-0 win over IUP at Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The tally proved to be the difference maker as Clarion snapped a six-game losing streak, earning their first conference win of the season.

Colondrillo's goal came in the 62nd minute and snapped a scoreless tie with the Crimson Hawks, giving the Golden Eagles the lead in what was yet another tightly-contested conference game. IUP was attempting to play keepaway in their own end, but Kylie Warren made an errant pass that was intercepted by Colondrillo just past midfield. The freshman carried the ball up the field herself and finished the play on her own, ripping a shot to the lower left-hand corner past Samantha Gildner from 20 yards out.

On the other end, the Golden Eagles locked things down against the Crimson Hawks, holding them to five shots on net. Alex Velez stopped them all, giving Clarion a strong backstop. Her biggest save of the game came in the 75th minute, when Aislinn Meaney lobbed a long shot toward the net. The ball carried well and was on line to slid in under the cross bar, but Velez punched it up to avoid the danger.

Another shot by the Crimson Hawks came close to scoring, as Samantha Nemeth hit the righthand post with a shot in the 76th minute. They would come no closer the rest of the way, though, as the Golden Eagles held IUP without a shot on net for the remainder of the game.
