Game Recap: Soccer |

Soccer Edged by Edinboro, 1-0

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Golden Eagle soccer team went toe-to-toe with a traditional PSAC West power on Wednesday evening, but Clarion was unable to overcome Edinboro in a tight contest on the road, falling by a 1-0 score at Sox Harrison Stadium.

The lone goal of the game came in the 72nd minute of action, with neither side able to muster much offense up to that point. Avery Grischow took a pass from Sarah Tomko and was able to plant it past goalkeeper Alex Velez for the Fighting Scots' sole tally of the night, giving them a 1-0 lead at 71:58.

The Edinboro defense did a good job of keeping Clarion from threatening the rest of the way, holding them without a shot on goal for the remainder of the game. Kylee Cross and Madison Spitko both fired shots on net late in the game, but both went high over the net and did not necessitate a save from Edinboro's Kaylee Lauriel.

Clarion's best opportunities in the game came earlier in the second half. Cross was denied on a shot in the 53rd minute, and Nicole Brown put a shot on Lauriel in the 57th minute but the latter was able to make the save. Cross added one more shot on the Edinboro net in the 60th minute, but Lauriel was able to stop the high shot for the save.

The only shots of the first half came from Edinboro, with Velez turning both of those opportunities away. Both Clare Crossley and Hadley Sleith put shots on Velez, but the junior keeper stopped both in keeping the game scoreless after 45 minutes.
