ERIE, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle soccer team headed out for its first divisional road game of the 2023 season, with Clarion falling by a 5-0 score to perennial PSAC West power Mercyhurst at Saxon Stadium.

The Lakers came out quickly against the Golden Eagles, with Corinne Morgan scoring her second goal of the year just 1:15 into the game action. She took a header from Karah Van Horn and ripped a shot from the left side, beating keeper
Sage Sherk for the goal.
Evelyn Cook – coming off a two-goal night to beat IUP on Wednesday – tried to even things up with a shot in the sixth minute but keeper Maddie Elbro made the save.

Mercyhurst tacked on another goal in the 13
th minute, this time with Camille Bultel scoring, and the Lakers eventually made it a 3-0 game before halftime on a goal by Emily Mijares.

The Golden Eagles had an opportunity to cut into the deficit early in the second half when
Kylee Cross was awarded a free kick 60 feet from the Mercyhurst net. The senior forward tried to pick the upper righthand corner but sent it wide.

Mercyhurst's Taryn Baxter scored in the 54
th minute, taking a pass from Madison Hoover and beating Sherk to make it 4-0, and Vanessa Evans tallied one final goal to close the game.
