EDINBORO, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle soccer team ran into their second difficult road contest in a row on Wednesday evening, falling by a 6-0 score to Edinboro at Sox Harrison Stadium.
Â
The contest could be fairly described as chippy, with the teams combining for five total cards. There were two yellow cards assessed against each team – including three total in the final 12 minutes -- and Clarion's
Sam Felder was assessed a red card with just under three minutes remaining in play.
Â
The Fighting Scots held an offensive advantage through both halves of action, peppering the Clarion side with 11 shots on net. That led to six goals for Edinboro, with the first coming in the 22
nd minute off the foot of Sophia Depew. In fact, the deficit was just 1-0 at the halftime break as Depew's tally represented the only score for either side.
Â
The Golden Eagles had their chances in that span. Felder lofted a shot just over the net in the eighth minute, and
Kylee Cross tried to tuck a free kick from inside 50 feet into the near corner but was stopped by Kaylee Lauriel.
Â
Edinboro notched a pair of goals roughly five minutes apart from one another in the second half, with Layne Kimple and Jenna Jackson adding tallies to take a 3-0 lead. Cross tried to cut into it with a long goal kick from just inside midfield, taking a long shot in the 57
th minute that sailed over the goalkeeper but just wide of the net. Megan Malits and Emily Vogel tallied goals to give the Fighting Scots a 5-0 lead, and Reece Enochs added oen more for good measure ot make it 6-0 in the 78
th minute.
