CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagle soccer team played California (PA) to a scoreless draw well into the second half of action, but the Vulcans scored in the 67^th minute to defeat Clarion 1-0 at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
 
High-danger scoring chances were few and far between for the two sides, as both defenses did a good job keeping the areas around the nets free of danger. The teams were credited with just five total shots on goal, though the Golden Eagles were able to dictate offensive play to the point that they enjoyed a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
For Clarion, Marisa Colondrillo and Kylee Cross provided the bulk of those shots, with those two players combining for six attempts in total. Cross had several shots on free kicks deep inside Vulcan territory, with those coming after California had already taken a 1-0 lead. Both shots sailed high and wide, with the second just missing the cage behind goalkeeper Emily Ouimet.
 
The Vulcans took their lead in the 67^th minute on a nice setup by Reagan Bromiley. She took a pass from Meja Haakansson and then headed it forward to Christyana Sims, who carried the ball ahead and beat goalkeeper Alex Velez for the tally.
 
That would be California's only shot on target for the entire second half, but their defense was able to make it stand up. The Golden Eagles did draw a pair of corner kicks in the final 11 minutes, including one in the 83^rd when playing with increased urgency, but they could not squeeze a shot by Ouimet.
