CLARION, Pa. --- Despite exciting wins in both singles and doubles action, the Golden Eagles tennis team concluded their fall schedule under the lights on Tuesday night, losing 5-2 to Penn State – Behrend at Campbell Courts on a brisk evening.
Davan Lion improved to 5-3 in singles action and also teamed with
Josie Beckerleg to improve the record of their doubles team to 5-3. Lion and Beckerleg represented the lone win in the doubles session for the Golden Eagles, beating Tamanna Sharma and Enisa Silkjkovic in No. 1 doubles by a 7-5 score. Taelyjn Thomas and
Caidyn Demchak played a spirited No. 3 doubles match against Keri Saulino and Triss Righi, but the latter won 6-3. A win at No. 2 doubles for the Mountain Cdats locked up the doubles point.
Lion picked up another exciting win in singles action, taking Sharma on head-to-head. She took the first set 6-3 but the two played to a draw through 12 total games in the second set, tying up at 6-6. That led to a back-and-forth tiebreaker, with Lion overcoming Sharma 7-5 in that game for the set and the match.
Also winning a singles match was Thomas, who picked up her fourth singles win of the year at No. 4 singles. She beat Lindsey Kerlin in straight sets, downing her 6-4, 6-2 for the other Golden Eagles point. Just missing out on adding another team point was Stephanie Juarez, who took the first set from Lauren Burkley 7-5 before dropping a 6-4 decision in the second. The two played an entertaining third set tiebreaker, with Juarez leading 9-5 before a furious rally from Burkley. The latter took the lead 11-10 until Juarez battled back, but Burkley eventually took the breaker 14-12 for the match.
