CLARION, Pa. --- In an action-packed and physical game, the Golden Eagles soccer team attempted a second-half rally against Edinboro but could not complete the comeback, falling by a 3-2 score to the Fighting Scots at Memorial Stadium.
The game featured bursts of action from both sides, with quick responses to opponent goals keeping things tight for all 90 minutes. It was also typified by a chippy nature that saw a number of rough collisions and hard fouls from both sides.
Edinboro took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Reece Enochs scored her third goal of the season, taking a crosser in the box from
Kylee Cross and putting it away for the tally. The Golden Eagles responded just 55 seconds into the second half when
Tessa Heffron headed in her first goal of the season off a perfect corner kick from
Nicole Brown. Brown lofted the ball into the box with her right foot and Heffron finished off the sequence, drilling the ball past the goalkeeper to even the score.
Enochs continued to be a thorn in the side of the Clarion defense, assisting on a Teaghan Watkins goal in the 54
th minute to put the Fighting Scots back ahead 2-1. Edinboro added another goal to extend their lead, with Baylee Welling adding a goal in the 72
nd minute.
The highlight of the night came just 19 seconds later, when Clarion attempted to claw their way back into the game.
Ciara DiMauro gathered a loose ball, spun open, and hooked a left-footed shot past the diving Edinboro goalkeeper to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Golden Eagles continued their comeback attempt with three shots by Marissa Colondrillo, including one with 3:54 left on the game clock that hit the left woodwork but did not cross into the back of the net. Clarion returns to action Saturday afternoon when they hit the road for a PSAC West matchup against California (PA).
