ERIE, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles soccer team dropped a game to the presumptive PSAC West favorites on Wednesday night, losing to the undefeated Gannon Golden Knights by a 3-0 score.
The game was marked by a blitzkrieg of offense, with Gannon outshooting the Golden Eagles 40-3, with 20 of those shots on net. The scoring started just four minutes into the game as Gannon's Grace Emanuel received a nice crossing pass from June Monasterio and knocked the ball past Clarion goalkeeper
Sage Sherk.
The Golden Eagles tried to pierce through Gannon's defense, with their first shot coming at 8:49 left in the first half when
Nicole Brown uncorked a shot off a free kick that landed directly in the arms of Gannon's Morgan Sinan. Gannon tacked on one more goal in the first half when Brooklyn Respecki scored her seventh goal of the season, which leads the PSAC.
At the start of the second half, the Gannon offense continued its onslaught of shots, but Sherk was holding strong with four saves early in the half. Sherk made 17 saves on 20 chances for the night. Emanuel cracked through the Golden Eagles defense once again when she scored her second goal of the night in a similar fashion to the first, receiving a cross from Jamie Seneca and making a sliding shot to put the score at 3-0.
Clarion added a few more shots with 16 minutes left in the game when
Leah Deal pushed the ball to the right of the goal. Freshman
Madison Rose sent a shot to the left of the goal off a free kick just moments later after a Gannon yellow card.
Clarion returns to Memorial Stadium from a two-game road trip when they host Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
