NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Golden Eagles scored a pair of goals in the first half, but a second-half tally by Walsh proved to be the difference as Clarion fell 3-2 to the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
The game-winning marker came off a crosser from Ramsey Smith, one of her two assists on the day. The deciding goal came off the foot of junior Katie Corrgian with just under 36 minutes left to go in the second half, giving the Cavaliers a 3-2 lead.
Clarion's best chance to tie the game came with 6:42 left on the clock when freshman
Madison Rose sliced her way through the defense, but O'Malley Quinlan made the save to quell any chance for the Golden Eagles.
The first half saw an explosion of scoring with four total goals in the half.
Ciara DiMauro continued her strong start to the season with her first goal of the season, notching the tally just seven minutes into the game. Walsh's Hannah Stein quickly responded with two goals of her own to put the Cavaliers ahead.
With 31:31 left on the clock in the first half, the Golden Eagles tied the game back up when
Leah Deal scored her first collegiate goal. The two teams' defenses corralled each other for the remainder of the half to keep the score tied. Walsh broke the tie midway through the second half and held onto the lead.
Midfielder
Marisa Colondrillo applied offensive pressure for the Golden Eagles with two shots on net, and three shots total. Goalkeeper
Sage Sherk, who faced her own share pressure from the Cavaliers offensive attack throughout the afternoon, finished with seven saves.
