Â
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles extended their season-long win streak to six games on Friday afternoon, with Clarion beating Pitt-Johnstown 5-2 at Point Stadium.
Â
All five of the Golden Eagles' runs came in in the third inning, with five hits, an error anda. Timely passed ball giving Clarion all the runs they needed for the afternoon.
Doran Mast and
Tyler Boraski led off the inning with singles, and a throwing error on
Griffin Snyder's bunt allowed Mast to score from second.
Tyson Gill broke the game open with a triple down the right field line, giving Clarion a 3-0 lead.
Â
Cole Yeager kept the inning going with a double to the gap in right center, pushing
Brody Hinkle to third, and the latter scored on a passed ball with
Connor Booth at the dish to make it 4-0. Booth delivered a two-out base hit to finish things off, scoring Yeager.
Â
Snyder took the hill for the Golden Eagles to start the game and was effective, allowing just one run over the course of 5.1 innings. He danced between the figurative raindrops on a handful of occasions, particularly in escaping a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first inning. After Snyder allowed a one-out triple to Calvin Iseminger and an RBI single to Erik Rhodes,
Max Engel entered the game and pitched the remainder, striking out Nathan Helms to escape the sixth inning.
Â
The Mountain Cats scored another run in the bottom of the seventh inning and threatened for more, but Engel again came up big, whiffing Iseminger for the final out of the game and the save.
Â
Gill and Mast both finished with two hits apiece, with Gill also having two of Clarion's three RBIs on the day.
