CLARION, Pa. --- The Golden Eagles baseball team ran into a buzzsaw at home on Sunday afternoon, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Seton Hill at Memorial Stadium. The Griffins won the first game by a 15-0 score before taking the second game 22-1.
Â
Game 1: Seton Hill 15, Clarion 0
RECAP: Despite the final score, the game actually started with the two teams trading zeroes in the opening innings. In fact Clarion was very nearly the first team on the scoreboard, putting runners in scoring position in the second inning.
Jack Hurda drew a one-out walk and he advanced on
Doran Mast's two-out single to right field, but a groundball out ended the frame.
Â
Owen Henne gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the top of the third inning, but the major damage came in the fourth. Seton Hill hit two home runs in the top of the fourth, including a three-run shot by Jakob Haynes and a solo home run by Jack Whalen.
Â
Those made it a 6-0 lead for the Griffins, and Seton Hill never looked back from there. They hit three more home runs over the course of the game, including another for Haynes, as they upped their margin to 15 runs.
Â
Game 2: Seton Hill 22, Clarion 1
RECAP: It was much more of the same for the Griffins and Golden Eagles in the second game of the day, with Seton Hill recording seven extra base hits, including a home run by Mark Black in the top of the second inning. Seton Hill scored eight runs in that frame and added six more in the third, giving themselves an early 16-0 lead.
Â
Clarion's sole run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Jack Hurda led off the frame with a double to the gap in left center, and he advanced to third when
Doran Mast pushed a grounder to second base.
Caden Contant lifted a fly ball to center field, scoring Hurda.
Â
The Golden Eagles will be back home for their final games of the 2025 season, starting with a single nine-inning game against Bloomsburg on Tuesday, April 29. They will close conference action against Lock Haven starting on Thursday.
