CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Eagles soccer team (0-4-1, 0-1-1) returned home for their second game of the season at Memorial Stadium, dropping a 3-0 decision to IUP (4-0-1, 2-0-0).
Clarion opened aggressively, pushing forward in the first half as
Ciara DiMauro fired a shot in the 13th minute and
Paige Brewer followed seconds later. The Crimson Hawks responded in the 23rd minute when Elle Smith converted off a feed from Emma Hays, handing the Crimson Hawks the 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles fought to level the score with shots from
Marisa Colondrillo and DiMauro, yet trailed by one at the break.
After intermission, Clarion again pressed as
Alyssa Aquilio forced action with a shot on goal in the 47th minute. Still, the Crimson Hawks extended the gap with goals from Emily Lattea and Smith, who buried a penalty kick in the 57th.
Sage Sherk came up big in the second half with a key save against Kat Morgan in the 76th, though the Golden Eagles' offense was unable to penetrate the Crimson Hawks' back line.
Sherk closed the evening with three stops while facing 18 shots. Aquilio generated two on target out of three tries, Brewer managed one accurate chance, and DiMauro added two strikes, with one directed at the goal.
