CLARION, Pa. — Golden Eagles soccer (1-5-1, 1-2-1) earned a 2-1 victory over Seton Hill (2-4-1, 0-3-1) on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium. Clarion scored once in each half, with
Lexi Shattahi's late penalty kick in the 84th minute securing the decisive goal.
Clarion opened aggressively, forcing Seton Hill into turnovers deep in their own end and quickly generating pressure with a corner in the first minute. Despite the strong start, the Griffins struck first when Katie Pazdziorko scored in the 14th minute. The Golden Eagles responded in the 29th when
Marisa Colondrillo stole a pass and sent it ahead to
Ciara DiMauro, who buried her shot into the bottom right corner to even the score at 1-1. Clarion continued to push forward, with efforts from
Evelyn Cook and
Leah Deal testing goalkeeper Jordan Spozarski before the break.
The second half featured more sustained offense from Clarion, while Sherk held strong in goal with timely saves, including an early stop against Binta Sow. The breakthrough came in the 84th minute when Shattahi drew a foul inside the box, earning a penalty kick. She beat Spozarski cleanly from the spot, giving the Golden Eagles the lead.
Seton Hill pressed for an equalizer, but Clarion's back line stayed firm. Sherk capped off the performance with a late save on Kilee Coatney, preserving the 2-1 result at the final whistle.
Shattahi added pressure throughout the match with two shots on goal. DiMauro led the Golden Eagles in attempts, recording five with three on frame. Sherk steadied the defense with three saves while facing nine shots, and Colondrillo's playmaking helped drive Clarion's attack.
