CLARION, Pa. — Clarion soccer (1-6-1, 1-3-1) fell to Edinboro (5-3-0, 3-2-0) by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Memorial Stadium. The Golden Eagles held the advantage at halftime, but the Fighting Scots rallied with two second-half goals, including the game-winner in the closing minute.
Clarion opened the scoring in the 18th minute when
Addison Blair delivered a pass into the middle to
Evelyn Cook, who quickly set up
Paige Brewer. Brewer finished the sequence with her second goal of the season, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead with Cook and Blair each credited with an assist. The home side continued to assert themselves, with Sherk stopping a dangerous attempt from Teaghan Watkins and Clarion generating more pressure through
Leah Deal and a series of corner kicks. The first half ended with Clarion ahead 1-0.
The second half began with Clarion maintaining offensive momentum, as Emily Sauvé,
Madison Rose, and
Ciara DiMauro all produced shots on goal. Edinboro goalkeeper Brianna Garey responded with several key saves to keep the score level. The Fighting Scots broke through in the 76th minute when Jada Cole converted off assists from Samantha Saylor and Grace Madison, tying the match at 1-1.
Clarion continued to threaten with attempts from Blair and
Hailey Dobb, but the tide shifted late. In the 90th minute, Madison Felton capitalized on an opportunity to score, handing Edinboro the 2-1 victory just before the final whistle.
