Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader vs. Central Penn

TOWSON, Md. --- The Golden Eagles baseball team (2-0) kicked off their 2026 season with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, taking a pair of games from Central Penn (0-2) at Calvert Hall High School. Clarion opened with an 11-6 victory over the Knights in the first game of their doubleheader on Saturday and followed it up with a commanding 12-2 win in the second game.
 
Game 1: Clarion 11, Central Penn 6
 
The action in Game 1 kicked off with Randy Carlo launching a two-run homer in the first inning, bringing Tyson Gill home after his single. This early strike put Clarion ahead 2-0. The Golden Eagles' offense was on fire, racking up three home runs and a total of nine hits in the win. They widened their lead with a four-run rally in the fourth inning, highlighted by Cesar Lopez smashing a two-run homer, driving in Chase Speiden after his double. A series of wild pitches and a passed ball allowed Gill and Zach Colangelo to cross home, boosting the lead to 6-1.
 
Carlo was at it again in the fifth with another two-run homer, following Colangelo's double, upping the score to 9-3. Central Penn's errors in the seventh inning paved the way for two more unearned runs, with Gill and Carlo both crossing the plate, cementing an 11-6 advantage. The final innings remained scoreless as the Golden Eagles clinched the win.
 
On the mound, Zach Kelly made his first start in the Blue & Gold held strong for 4.0 innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run while striking out 3. Ryan Gallagher (1-0) got the win, following Kelly with 1.1 innings of relief. Aiden Hartle and Colin Miller made up the rest of the staff in the opening game.
 
In terms of individual performances, Carlo shined with two home runs and four RBIs, scoring three runs. Gill added three runs, a hit, and an RBI. Colangelo racked up a double, scored twice, and endured two hit-by-pitches. Lopez chipped in with a home run, two RBIs, and a run.
 
 
Game 2: Clarion 12, Central Penn 2 (6 inn.)
 
In Game 2, the Golden Eagles carried their momentum forward, propelled by an electric sixth inning that saw them rack up eight runs. Central Penn nudged ahead in the third, taking advantage of an error to go up 1-0, and they tacked on another run in the fourth via a string of walks, making it 2-0.
 
The Golden Eagles came alive in the fifth, loading the bases with a walk and a hit by pitch. Colangelo was plunked to force in their first run with the bases loaded, and Randy Carlo's two-RBI double to center put the Golden Eagles in front. Ethan Giangiulio added an RBI double, pushing the lead to 4-2 by the end of the inning.
 
The home half of the sixth inning was all Golden Eagles, with Clarion exploding for eight runs. Ethan McNally's walk kicked things off, and a flurry of hits and passed balls followed. Tyson Gill's two-RBI double was a standout moment, while Carlo chipped in another RBI with a double down the line. The game was called on a 10-run rule after the Golden Eagles opened up a 12-2 advantage.
 
Luke Pietrandrea set the tone on the mound for Game 2, hurling 3.2 innings with three hits allowed, two earned runs, six strikeouts, and four walks. Logan Hinds earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
 
In terms of individual highlights from Game 2, Tyson Gill had a strong day, driving in two runs and scoring twice. Randy Carlo was a force at the plate, notching three RBIs and two doubles. Jon Fijalkowski crossed the plate twice and contributed an RBI, while Colangelo added a hit, a run, and a stolen base, keeping the pressure on the Knights' defense.
