CLARION, Pa. — The Golden Eagles softball team fell to the Gannon softball team 13-0 at Memorial Stadium on Friday afternoon in a conference contest.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader between the teams was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain. Information on when the remainder of the game will be played will be announced at a later time.
Gannon seized control early in the first game with a decisive first inning, crafting a 4-0 lead that set the tone for the game. Key moments included a sacrifice bunt by Sadie Carroll that advanced runners into scoring position, followed by a sacrifice fly from Jenna Clontz. Josie Spano delivered an RBI single, and Carlyn Vaupel capped the rally with a two-run home run. This early surge put the Golden Eagles on the defensive from the outset.
The Golden Eagles struggled to counter, with their most notable opportunity arising in the first inning. After an error allowed
Sabi Medrano to advance to second and
Emily Buchleitner to third, the threat was halted by a pop-out and an unassisted out at third base. Despite hits from
Brooke Dobson and Sophie Petrash in the third inning, the Golden Eagles could not capitalize, leaving runners stranded.
The Golden Knights extended their lead in the fifth with a three-run inning, highlighted by Emily Spears' two-RBI double. The Golden Eagles' offense was unable to muster a response, concluding the game scoreless.
Brooke Dobson led the Golden Eagles with two hits, contributing to its offensive efforts. Buchleitner added to the team's performance with a hit and a stolen base. Petrash also recorded a hit.
