AKRON, Ohio — The Golden Eagles baseball team routed Malone in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, winning by a 15-3 score. The Golden Eagles' offense tallied 14 hits, including two home runs, and a seven-run sixth inning sealed the win.
Clarion opened the game with a strong first inning. Zach Colangelo walked, and
Randy Carlo followed with another walk.
Ethan Giangiulio then singled to drive in Colangelo.
Jacob Patterson's home run - his sixth of the season - to left center brought in three more runs, scoring Giangiulio and Carlo, giving Clarion a 4–0 lead.
In the third inning, Patterson reached on a fielding error and was brought home by
Derek Smail's RBI single. The Pioneers responded with three runs in their half of the inning, capitalizing on a series of walks and a sacrifice fly, narrowing Clarion's lead to 5–3.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the fourth.
Jon Fijalkowski singled, and a series of advances, including a wild pitch, allowed three runs to score, making it 8–3.
The sixth inning saw the Golden Eagles' offense explode for seven runs.
Tyson Gill walked and stole second, and Zach Colangelo walked. Carlo's single drove in Gill.
Brayden Foster, pinch-hitting, singled to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Robles and a double by Smail added to the tally.
Wyatt Fether then hit a three-run homer, capping the inning and pushing the lead to 15–3. Clarion held Malone scoreless in the final innings.
Colin Miller pitched two innings, conceding one hit and striking out one, securing the win with a 5–3 lead.
